The climate in Rota is the typical climat of southern Spain.
Rota is Andalusia, and since it is part of Andalusia it lives it´s festivities with passion and happiness. Below we will mention the most important festivities of the year such as carnival and the patron saint festivities amongst others.
The festivity calendar begins on New Years Day, the first of January. On January 6th we celebrate 3 kings day also known as Epiphany. From there the next ones on the list are those of Carnival which are celebrated at the end of February or begining of March and is a big party where everyone dresses up in costume and goes around the streets laughing and singing Comparsas and Chirigotas; the traditional jokey mannered songs.
Easter week is celebrated in March or April depending of the year, and it is a festivity with many parades carrying virgins and saints to which people make promises to, for the coming year. It is celebrated with a great passion in every street of Andalusia...of course Rota is in that category.
At the end of April or begining of May there is the Spring Feria where everybody dresses in traditional flamenco dresses and suits. In October there are the patron Saint festivities of Virgen del Rosario, a festivity that is held in high regards throughout the municipality.
Other festivities are the Virgen del Carmen in July and Feria de la Urta a festivity in honor of the Urta fish in August.
