Rota is a city that has many different and interesting spots to visit depending on your cultural point of view. The Castillo de Luna (castle of the moon), The Iglesia de la O(church) or Torre de la Merced (tower of mercy) are a few that we must not forget to see in it's historic center.

We can start our cultural tour of Rota in the Castillo de Luna. It is located on the coast and opens it's doors to the Bay of Cadis. The castle sits above the remains of an old muslim ribat. During the summer months you can assist the many live music shows they have in the interior patio of the Castle. It was built in the 13th century. After this we can move on to the Iglesia de la O, which was built in the 16th century and is located right accross from the Castle. It was built in the XVI century.

Another interesting place to visit from a cultural point of view is the Torre de la Merced. The only tower that is still standing from the old convent of La Merced dating back tot he 17th century. It was destroyed in 1722 by an earthquake that flattened Rota.

To finish off the tour, nothing better than visiting the museum of Ruiz Mateos, in it you'll find a collection of contemporary art from the Mayor Zoilo Ruiz Mateos' foundation.
