Rota is a municipality that looks towards the ocean, but does not leave behind it´s fields with fruit trees and vegetables. It is a locality that prides in a balanced diet between products from the land and sea. It´s tomatos and peppers cannot envy the tuna or urta. All of them are a perfect combination. Fresh vegetables and fish are the main ingredients in a typical Rota table. One of it´s most famous plates is the piriñacas a salad made with bell peppers, tomatos, onions. Every ingredient well chopped and marinated with olive oil, salt and vinegar.
On the other hand another famous plate is Berza Roteña, a bean stew condimented with celery and other vegetables, as well as pork, meat and blood sausage, or what they call here pringá which is lard.
Since Rota is facing the sea, it also has a cuisine very oriented towards fish and seafood as well. Sea urchins are a delicacy here. The famous
urta a la roteña a fish caught here, fixed in their special way, is a dish that is a trademark here. Urta is a pink colored fish without any fat, and with a seafood taste. It is not a sedentary fish,and it is found only in the Atlantic ocean during the summer. A good table in Rota is also always accompanied by a tintilla, an exclusive wine from Rota, that is exported to other countries like England.
Rota also has an international cuisine, it has come along throughout the years, with the growing tourism rates. There are many italian restaurants, argentinian grills, mexican, french, chinese, german as well as american fast food chains. All of these options at the palm of your hand, but you must always remember that the healthiest and most recomendable food is always the local homeade cuisine. |
